The miniVigor Story
At Computex Expo in June 1998 in Taiwan, there was a booth of a Zyxel spin-off company called DrayTek. The booth was virtually empty: a spec sheet, a plastic sample of the worlds first USB-ISDN terminal adapter and several enthusiastic experts in ISDN and USB was all there was to show.
News of the iMac had hit the world less than 6 weeks before and Microsoft had not yet fully implemented USB. Yet DrayTek was there to spearhead the trend. Quickly, their expertise was renowned world-wide.
Microsoft, Toshiba, Apple and KPN, the Dutch telephone company, were among the first to realize the potential of this device. Microsoft lauded DrayTek for their advanced software engineering, Toshiba partnered for easy and light-weight connectivity of their notebooks through the Windows-version of isdnVigor and Apple Netherlands and KPN teamed up to promote iMac bundles with isdnVigor128 Mac in all outlets of the Dutch phone company as THE ideal way to get on the Internet.
Hard work and continuous improvement was the basis of this success story. Work continues today, unabated. Past years have seen the addition of features such as bandwidth upon demand, fax capability as well as file exchange with the popular Leo Pro, LeodaWin and Grand Central software packages and the possibility of simultaneous transmission of different types (e.g. fax reception while surfing).
Today, just over three years after its original incarnation, the successor miniVigor 128 has shrunk to one quarter of the size of the original isdnVigor. The adapter is universally compatible, supporting Mac OS, Mac OS X, Windows 98/2k/Me, Linux and even the now-extinct BeOS.
