»Normally, when a manufacturer's press release calls their new product "the coolest looking on the market," I tend to take with an exceptionally large grain of salt.
That said, Dr. Bott's new translucent, four-port gHub USB hub does strike me as mighty good looking...«

gHub - the best choice, inside and out!

Overview

The original gHub was the first USB hub to pick up the design of G4 Power Macs and the iMac Special Edition. The same high standards, both technically and optically, were carried over to its successor, the gHub 2.0.

gHub 2.0 expands a single USB port into 4 equivalent ports that are available for additional USB 2.0 devices or USB-Hubs. The required USB A-B cable is included in the package.

gHub 2.0 is what you need once the USB connectors on the computer and the free connector on the USB keyboard are filled up and swapping USB components in and out of your configuration starts tiring you!

Devices like USB Floppy Drives, SuperDisks, Flash Drives, USB ISDN adapters or USB ZIP drives are another reason to use gHub. These high-power devices require too much current to reliably operate from a keyboard USB-port that is not self-powered.

Connecting the powered gHub to your vacant keyboard USB-port will offer more ports - all of them supporting both high- and low-power USB devices.

The overcurrent protection feature ensures your computer remains unaffected by such a condition on the USB bus. If a fault is detected with any USB device connected to gHub only the affected port will be shut down, allowing trouble-free operation of the rest of the system. This is especially valuable in a setup requiring reliable operation day-in, day-out.

gHub 2.0 was designed for Power Macintosh and current generation iMacs - hence the available White and Aluminium flavours. Of course, these design choices do not prevent gHub 2.0 from being the ideal USB hub for any computer that sports a USB port!

Features

  • gHub 2.0 can be installed without turning your computer off
  • gHub 2.0 is compatible with all USB devices.
  • gHub 2.0 is platform-independent, Mac OS (8.6, 9 and X), Win98/ME, Win2k/XP and Linux are all supported
  • gHub 2.0 built-in overcurrent protection will power down individual ports with defective devices drawing too much current, leaving other ports fully operational.
  • gHub 2.0 is a piece of art:
    - gHub Silver fits most computers in Silver or Aluminium design, including Mac Book Pro, Power Macintosh, and PowerBooks.
    - gHub White is a perfect match for any iMac PPC, iMac Intel or iBook, or in fact any other stylish computer out there!
Technical Features:
  • Compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1 specs
  • Plug-and-Play compatible
  • Bus error recognition and correction
  • 480, 12 and 1,5 Mbps transfer rate available on all 4 connectors.
  • Operation is possible with and without power supply. LEDs signal bus-powered or self-powered modes.
  • Deactivation of individual ports
    1. Overcurrent protection with limits between 500 mA (min.) / 750 mA (typ.) / 1250 mA (max.), overcurrent shutdown is indicated by LEDs
    2. Automatic shutdown in case of overload or overheating.
    3. "Soft Start" - slow activation to circumvent too high currents when activating capacitive loads.
  • 4 USB Type A Ports for USB-devices
  • Active devices indicated via LED.
