Dr. Bott Digital Video Link DL
Digital Video Link DL allows the use of Apples newest monitors with mini DisplayPort on video sources with dual-link DVI connectors. This enables computers that do not have a mini DisplayPort connector to use the extremely attractive Apple displays and even the 27" iMac as a high resolution monitor!
Dr. Bott Digital Video Link DL supports the full 2560x1440 pixel resolution of the 27" iMac and the 27" Apple LED Cinema Display, and it requires a dual-link DVI graphics card in the computer for this. The 24" Apple LED Cinema Display can also be used at its full resolution of 1920x1200 pixels.
A standard 3.5 mm stereo jack allows injecting a normal stereo audio signal into the mini DisplayPort signal, enabling the single mini DisplayPort cable to transport both audio and video to the display and its built-in speakers.
Plug and Play Operation
Digital Video Link DL is easy to install and set up - automatic display recognition ensures plug and play. No power supply is required, a free USB port is all that is needed to power Digital Video Link DL.
Additional Information
MAY 2011: The iMac Mid-2011 series with Thunderbolt cannot be used with Digital Video Link DL (see Apple Knowledgebase for details).
Dr. Bott Digital Video Link DL is optimized for dual-link DVI graphics cards. We do not recommend using a single-link DVI graphics card as several such cards are unable to properly recognize the high resolution 27" displays.
For exclusive use of the 24" Apple LED Cinema Display we recommend the more economical Digital Video Link 24.
If you wish to use the 27" iMac or the 27" Apple LED Cinema Display with a HDMI device (PS3, XBox, Sat receiver etc) or if you plan to exclusively use a single-link DVI graphics based computer we recommend using the Digital Video Link 27.
