Overview:
Apple Power Macintosh G4, the G4 Cube and Power Macintosh G5 computers come with a video connector called ADC (Apple Display Connector).
ADC is very practical because it supplies the monitor with power as well as video and USB signals all in one cable.
Unfortunately the ADC cable is hard-wired to the display and cannot be replaced with a longer cable. The 1.5 m (5 ft.) provided are not long enough to accomodate all setups.
ADC Extension by Dr. Bott offers an extra 3 m (10 ft.), extending the range of the display to a total of ca. 4.5 m (15 ft.). A passive extension cable cannot go further than that as both the digital video signals and the USB signals that are also carried in the ADC cable will not permit so. The active ADC Extension Pro provides lengths up to ca. 20 m.
ADC Extension offers optimal signal quality so that USB and video signals are transmitted correctly for a great picture and trouble-free operation of USB devices.
Compatibility:
ADC Extension is compatible with all Power Macintosh G4, G5 and the G4 Cubes that come with an ADC graphics card. If in doubt, the Apple Tech Info Library (TIL) will help you differentiate between the various models.
ADC Extension works with all digital ADC displays. We have specifically tested ADC Extension with the Apple 15" and 17" Studio Displays, the Apple 20" , 22" and 23" Cinema Displays and the Formac 1740 Gallery Display.
Limitations:
ADC Extension is not compatible with Apple's now discontinued 17" CRT display. This is an analog display that uses different signals from the flat panel ADC displays.
ADC Extension cannot be daisy-chained, i.e. you cannot use 2 of them to extend the ADC cable by 6 m. If you require an extension that is longer than 3 m you must use an active extension product such as ADC Extension Pro (which uses electronics to boost the signal for long-distance transmission).
ADC Extension should not be used in combination with other extension cables or adapters. The combination may work but it is possible that you run into problems with the quality of the displayed video signal, which is why we cannot endorse such combinations.
